So you've begun the process of building a custom website by My Site Company and want to make your business grow. To have your site develop and go live as quickly and efficiently as possible, here are the things we need from you!
We have two forms we need you to fill out - our Client Information Form (with information such as billing info, domain preferences, etc) and our Service Contract (which details our obligations to you and your obligations to us). We cannot begin anything related to your site before these forms are filled out. Before filling out these forms, make sure you understand them completely, and let us know if you have any questions.
For Previous Websites If you had a website/domain name prior to signing up with us, we need the login information for your domain name (so we can point it to our servers) and the login for your hosting account (we provide your hosting when you sign up with us, but we like to make a backup of your old files in case they are needed in the future for any reason).
We design your site with your needs in mind. So if we know the approximate number of navigation links you need on your page, it helps us plan your site layout. Additionally, knowing the types of pages you need, helps us know the kinds of pages we need to design for. Some standard site pages are: Welcome About Services Pricing Portfolio Contact You may need more or less than this list, and some of your list might have sub-navigation pages (like your About page might feature three bios on three separate pages, or your Portfolio page might show six albums, each of which can be clicked to see an entire gallery). If you are unsure of what pages you need, please let us know. We would be happy to further discuss your site needs with you.
All the pages on your site will need text. For every page that you require, we need to have text for. While we do not need your text immediately (we can use filler text in your initial site mockups), to have the best idea of how your site will look with your own information, it is best to have your text as early as possible. Additionally, your site cannot go live until we have received text from you. So no matter how much design and programming we do, we need your text before your site is complete.
All the pages on your site will have images. Whether these are logos, product images, company staff photos, etc, these are images we need you to send us. While we do not need your images immediately (we can use filler images until we have received them), to have the best idea of how your site will look when it is completed, it is best to have your text as early as possible. Additionally, your site cannot go live until we have received your images. So no matter how much design and programming we do, we need your images before your site is complete.
You are a big part of this process. Most people want their site up as soon as possible. In order for things to progress efficiently, we need to have a site contact person who we can address our questions to, let them know what we are missing from you, etc. If you feel this contact person position might be best served by a person other than yourself (such as a more computer-comfortable associate), please let us know. We can direct all our questions to your contact person and they can take care of being the mediator between you and us to make sure we get all the files we need.
